This seems to be another new set of road network data (just that, not general map data per se) that is user generated by having users running an application on their GPS mobile phone. Purpose for now seems to be to be able to give the entire www.waze.com community a free route planner that takes and current local road situation information (traffic, police, changing roads) into account automatically. Sounds interesting, and if you look at the site right now it looks like they are "paving roads on a blank canvas" right now.

Vleuterweide

Posted by peSHIr on 7 November 2009 in Dutch (Nederlands).

Two interesting OSM topics

Posted by peSHIr on 9 October 2009 in English.

One important one: the www.openstreetmap.org page really needs to show more and "better" (=more aluring/useful) maps. See http://www.openstreetmap.org/user/Buadhai/diary/8208

And an interesting one: representing race tracks in OSM. The two major examples in the Netherlands are examples of the "shambles" that exists in this area. Well, at least they are on the map already. See http://www.openstreetmap.org/user/kevjs1982/diary/8217

Viaduct Vleuterweide

Posted by peSHIr on 6 October 2009 in Dutch (Nederlands).

Address information

Posted by peSHIr on 14 July 2009 in English.

After SOTM09 I started mapping in my local neighborhood again: this time checking for some (much needed) updates, adding some POIs and must importantly the address information.

Tried to use the Walking Papers website for process, which works briljantly while walking the neighborhood taking notes. However, as I do not have a scanner, I tried to upload a digital photo of my notes and WP did not like that: if the four corners are too trapezoidal, recognition of the QR code fails. Will try to take a better photo later. Maybe this is the perfect reason to finally chuck the old HP Deskjet in the bin and get myself a proper multifunctional...? ;-)

I tried to map some of the footpaths in Vleuterweide today using Trackr! (www.trackr.nl, www.trackr.eu) on my mobile phone. While this is generally fine when mapping roads by car, it seems this is not accurate enough (and with enough track points) for small scale footpaths in urban area's. I will need to walk the same track agiain, but now with my Garmin GPSMAP 60C. Oh well...

Went for a very nice walk on the open heathland in the forest near Hilversum (just next to the local airfield, which someone should still add to OSM I see) and it looks as if the pethora of walking trails that exist there are still nowhere to be seen in OSM. I added the route we walked and next times we will walk there I will try to get as many of the uncharted paths as I can.

Leidsche Rijn Park and Papendorp

Posted by peSHIr on 1 May 2008 in English.

My survey of some new roads in the Papendorp area has now been processed (thanks to http://www.openstreetmap.com/user/Tallguy for his tip about reusing the show overlay button in Potlatch!). Also, we went for a walk in the new park area in Leidsche Rijn Park and of course I surveyed the footpaths we walked. The area is not yet complete, but at least some of the paths that are already there are in OSM already.

GPS upload failure...

Posted by peSHIr on 28 April 2008 in English.

I drove around Papendorp (near Utrecht) yesterday, and after the upload troubles I find that OSM tells me that the upload ws successful, but it is only showing up partially in the the Potlatch online editor. Guess I'll try and upload the track again, maybe in smaller subpieces, to see if that works. Bummer...

Maarssenseweg over A2

Posted by peSHIr on 21 April 2008 in Dutch (Nederlands). Last updated on 14 July 2009.
